Building Plaque Dedication for Major Fannie Griffin-McClendon 6888th Postal Battalion

The Phoenix VA Health Care System will honor one of our local WWII Veterans and heroes, Major Fannie Griffin-McClendon (ret) with a building plaque dedication on August 21, 2025, at Steele Indian School Park, Memorial Hall, 10am-12:30pm.

Maj. McClendon who is now 104-years old is the oldest Veteran we serve within our healthcare system. She is the last living 6888th Postal Battalion woman veteran. Born in Layfette, Louisiana on September 22, 1920, Maj. McClendon was a First. On July 31, 2020, former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed a proclamation declaring August 15, 2020, the Six Triple Eight Central Postal Directory Battalion Day in Arizona. She is also an active member of the Archer-Ragsdale Arizona chapter of Tuskegee Airmen Inc. Maj. McClendon is the only surviving member of the 6888th and we would like to honor her for her remarkable contribution to our country and her trailblazing efforts and dedication to service.living 6888th Postal Battalion veterans.
